Another busy week, all the grandkids went back to school. My younger granddaughter started Kindy and she seems a bit overwhelmed. Preschool is so much different. Hopefully, she will find her feet. The rest of the kids are fine, they are happy to see their friends again.

Steve and I took a drive down to the South Coast and it was beautiful. It is one of my favourite places, Kiama, Wollongong, Albion Park. The beaches there are lovely.

It was nice to take a break from all the medical stuff even for just a few days.

I hope everyone has a great week.

Well, this month got off to a bad start. My youngest daughter has had terrible problems with the new house. There have been leaking pipes and ceiling pieces have been breaking away. Thank god the Real Estate and the landlords have been doing all the repairs. It has still been a nightmare for her and her partner as they have only just moved into the house. I told her that they could stay with us, but the kids are starting school and she does not want to pull them out at the start of the year. Then she started having car trouble just to add to the joy. Luckily her partner has a van that she can use in an emergency.

Then to top it off, I went swimming and hurt my neck so we had to put our weekend trip off. I have been applying heat packs and that seems to be helping. I am looking after my older granddaughter and spending Tuesday with her as I won't be there for her first day at high school. I promised my two younger grandkids that I would be there to see them off at Kindy and pre school. It is just a shame they are all starting on the same day in different areas. Still we will have fun together on Tuesday.

Hopefully the coming weeks will get better for us. I hope January and Febuary has been kinder to everyone.

It is my youngest daughter's birthday today, hopefully, I will be able to visit her later in the week. We were going to drive down to see her a few days ago but the weather was so bad and I did not want to tackle Mount Ousley in wet weather.

The weather here has been switching between blisteringly hot or raining. At least I have been able to get some swimming in.

I am still trying to work off all the new year cheer, so even though I have not made any NY resolutions, I am trying to whip my sorry self into shape. It is more just getting the time to go to the gym and get some walking in.

That's about it. I hope everyone had a great weekend.

The weather here is so hot and muggy right now. It has become real Christmas weather. We are having storms nearly every day, and the clouds are trapping the heat, making things really humid. Steve and I have been having showers to try and stay cool.

Steve and I went into the city to finish the Christmas shopping, we ended up going to our favourite pub for a quick (non alcoholic) drink before going home.

For the first time in many years, I bought a Christmas tree. It is a fake white birch with LED lights in the tips of the branches. I am going to paint it black so it can double as a Halloween tree.

That it about it for now. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Oh boy, it has snuck up on me this year. Steve and I are actually putting up a tree this year. Normally we don't as it is just the two of us. The kids are grown and we usually travel to one of their places. But we found a white birch tree with LED lights in the branches. I plan to paint it black so it can double as a Halloween tree as well. (Yes, I know I am weird, don't judge me. LOL)

I babysat one of my granddaughters on Saturday night, her parents had a Christmas work do to go to. We had a lot of fun together, hanging out, playing games and reading mangas. She is twelve and starts high school next year. I love hanging out with my grandkids.

I have most of the Christmas shopping done, just a few bits and pieces now, then I can relax until the new year, then it will be birthdays and Easter.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Not much has been happening this week. We didn't have many medical appointments, so we had more time to see friends, and I even had time to go to my favourite bay to go swimming. The weather is getting warmer despite all the rain so I planning to spend a lot more time at Cronulla.

On another note, I have joined Bluesky. As much as I liked Twitter, no I refuse to call it X, it is becoming more right-wing and a hell of a lot more nasty. Now with the rumours that Twitter might be merging with Truth Social, I decided to create a Bluesky account. I am going to stay on Twitter as I have friends over on there and it is my way of staying in touch, but I will probably post more on Bluesky. Of course, I will always have LJ and DW so it's not all bad news.

So other than all this, not much else has been happening. I hope everyone has had a great week.

I have not been on much as I have been having some ups and downs with my health. Nothing big, just annoying little things mostly. It has been a pretty good week with a birthday for two of my granddaughters. It was a nice family get-together. It rained but we were all under shelter so it didn't affect the party.

The weather was nice so Steve and I decided to spend the day at the beach. It is just a short distance from where we live. The weather is warming up and it's getting closer to beach weather which for me is perfect. I also saw Venom The Last Dance and really enjoyed it.

That's about it for now. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Finally a day at home, the last few weeks have been so busy between all the medical stuff and NDIS things we have had to do. I am also recovering from an eye infection on top of it all. Today I have decided to do nothing, just catch up on my reading and stuff like that.

Other news, I finally got some good news, the lump on my left index finger is not skin cancer, yay. It is a form of dermatitis. The doctor has given me a cream to put on it. I live in one of the countries that has the highest instances of skin cancer so I have to be really careful. I guess it is the downside of living in a sunburnt country,

That's about it for now have a great week everyone.

I know I haven't done many Geeky Girl posts because my RL has been taken up with looking after my husband Steve. He has a neurological disease called Cervical Dystonia and a body movement disorder called Myoclonus. All this and on top of two knee replacements and aortic stenosis. He is slowly losing the ability to walk and he is going to get a motorised wheelchair under the NDIS.

Please don't get me wrong, I love my husband and I am his carer and wife, it just does not give me much time to write and do all my geeky stuff that I love. One thing about Steve though, he is always telling me to write and visit my fave comic book shops. A couple of days ago, I went to see the Gold Of Ramses at the Australian Museum, which was awesome BTW.

But despite him being so supportive of my interests/obsessions, I still don't have the time that I would like to have. I am going to try to post more geeky/nerdy stuff and try to get back to writing. I make no promises but I am going to try a put a couple of hours aside where I can.

I will still post about my usual day to day stuff as well, but hopefully, more geek culture will appear soon.

It's been a busy week. Steve and I went to the Hand Eye hospital to see a specialist about the Dupuytren's contracture in both his hands. The surgeon decided to wait to do surgery as it is in its very early stages. Steve has to go back in December to have his hands checked again.

I spend time with my youngest daughter and her two older kids at the pools on Thursday and we had a great day, we all had fun so that was nice.

I have also decided to go back to volunteering, I really miss it and so does Steve but his Dystonia and Myoclonus have become so bad, he can't really do anything. What we have decided is that I will do the work, setting up the room, etc, and Steve can greet the clients and chat with them. They really seem to like him. As soon as the organisation returns from the Christmas break, I will sort it all out,

Our trip to Melbourne was fun and we are hoping to be able to get back to Queensland again for a quick break. We will see how it goes.

That's about it for now. Hope everyone has a great week.

It doesn't really feel like summer at the moment here. It has been cool and rainy for the last couple of days. The night before last we had a huge thunderstorm that lasted for ages. I love thunderstorms, especially at night when I am lying in bed. I was a bit worried about a couple of trees, the wind was so strong, I was worried that they were going to come down. They didn't though, thank goodness.

I spent Wednesday catching up with an old friend I used to work with. We had lunch in the city and visited our old workplace to see a couple of friends that still work there. She also bought a lovely Thin Lizzy lip set for me which was so sweet. I love Thin Lizzy but it's so expensive so I rarely buy it for myself.

Steve and I are going to visit my sister from another mister for a belated Boxing Day lunch. She had to postpone it as they all came down with Covid. They are all negative now though so it's back on. Other than all this, nothing much has been happening. I do hope we get some good weather for our trip to Melbourne next week though.

It's been a typical week here filled with doctors' appointments and therapies for Steve. I did manage to catch up with a friend of mine. I bumped into her at the local shopping centre and we ended up having coffee together. The biggest problem is with all appointments we have, is getting time to catch up with friends and family. Still, next week I have my goddaughter's 21st birthday party coming up and my middle daughter is throwing a Halloween party. I also found out that one of my friends and former neighbor suddenly passed away. She was a lovely lady, with a great sense of humour. She moved to Queensland so I wasn't able to attend the funeral. I will miss her.

That's about it. I hope you all have a great week.

The Great Sydney Lockdown continues as the Covid numbers rise. One good thing is that I have managed to make an appointment for Steve and myself to get the Pfizer vaccine as we are both under 60. It's a few weeks away, but that's thanks to the bungler in charge, our idiot Prime Minister Scott Morrison not getting enough vaccines. Steve is still on the mend from his knee replacement, poor thing is in pain, the nights are the worst, but he is getting better. There is no sign of redness or swelling so there's no infection or anything like that.
A friend of his had his knee replaced around the same time as Steve did and he had nothing but trouble with it, so I think Steve is pretty lucky.
We go and see his specialist on Tuesday for a checkup, hopefully, they won't cancel the appointment because of the lockdown.
Other than this, not a lot happening, Steve is pretty much stuck inside while he is recovering from the surgery and unless we are shopping for essentials, seeking medical care, or exercising, we are not allowed to leave our homes. At least I am getting a few bits and pieces done, like cleaning up all the paperwork, filing it, going through old photos, etc.
It's cold and raining here, so it's nice to be staying inside anyway.

Update

I have just found out that due to the two week lockdown, I can't visit Steve while he is in hospital. He goes in tomorrow for his knee replacement. I understand why I can't go in but I am going to worry the whole time.
ladymidath: (Default)
Well now that Steve can no longer work because of his dystonia, knee replacement, and second knee replacement looming, he has taken to volunteering with me at the community social centre where I have been volunteering for a while now. He has taken to it like a duck to water. He greets the clients and manages to help with the equipment. Because Of Covid, we have to deep clean everything and Steve is so good at it. Of course, his dystonia starts to kick in and he has to take a break but the staff are all wonderful. They understand that he is struggling with a horrible neurological disease. I am still trying to get him an NDIS package but with this shitty government, it's so geared against people who a living with serious disabilities. Morrison is talking about an early election and I would love to see his flabby arse booted out of Parliament House but until Murdoch turns up his toes, he will probably get back in. Also, Zuckerberg has made good on his threat and is no longer allowing Facebook to post links to Australian news services. God, this government has no idea of the shitstorm they have created. still, it's amusing to watch everyone melting down about it. What will be interesting is if Google packs up as well, maybe that will shake everyone out of their apathy and take to the streets to get rid of this government once and for all. Sorry, I did not intend for this to become a political rant, but lately, things have taken a turn for the farcical.

Sorry I haven't done much posting lately but things have been crazy here. I am trying to get more wedding pics to upload but the photographer is still tweaking them. The man is a perfectionist I swear.
Some good stuff and some crappy stuff has happened all at once, *which seems to be the story of my life,* I have had a lot of shifts at work, yay and some unexpected news.
My youngest daughter has just found out that she is expecting a baby, she has decided to keep it and I am going to help her. Which means I have to cut my hours back a work. It's not going to be easy but I want to help my daughter as she is young and is going to need someone to give her a hand.
Also my doctor wants to send me for more medical tests and it looks like I have developed diabetes. :-(
Ugh, at least the scans were clear so that's a tick on the good side.
MY son in law is also being sent away for more military exercises, he is going away for eight weeks so I will be spending time with my eldest daughter so she doesn't get lonely.
One fun thing I did today, I attended a Marriage Equality Rally and got my photo taken to send to leaders around the world in hopes of having gay rights recognized.
One of the young women who helped organize it got a text message from her boyfriend who was attending a marriage, apparently the priest who was performing the ceremony likened gay marriage to bestiality.
Unbelievable.
I hope to be able to post more when work slows down a little, I want to try and get back to my geek girl posts and I have some fics that are just languishing on my computer.
That's if RL lets up on me of course. :-)

I have not been on the net lately as my modem died. I bought a new one so that okay but I have my daughter in law my my two granddaughters staying with me so I have been pretty busy.
It's school holidays here as well so I have not had much time.

I do promise a Geeky Girl post soon though. :-)
